Our History
Somali American Women Action Center (SAWAC) was born out of the lived experiences of immigrant and refugee women in Minnesota. Many arrived carrying the weight of trauma and displacement, while facing language barriers, limited resources, and the daily struggle of providing for their families. SAWAC transforms these challenges into strength uplifting women’s voices, creating pathways to independence, and building safe, sustainable futures for their families and communities.
Our Mission
Led by women who have walked the same path, SAWAC’s mission is to guide immigrant and refugee women in navigating resources, gaining economic independence, and amplifying their voices as agents of peace and sustainability.
Our Vision
We partner with a variety of organizations and businesses in our community to provide comprehensive mental health services to those in need.
